Exclusive: Google faces antitrust case in India over payments app – sources

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India’s antitrust body is looking into allegations that Alphabet Inc’s Google is abusing its market position to unfairly promote its mobile payments app in the country, five sources familiar with the case told Reuters.

The complaint was filed in February and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has kept the identity of the complainant confidential, the first source with direct knowledge of the case said.

Klobuchar pushes antitrust regulators to scrutinize potential Uber deal for Grubhub

Sen. Amy Klobuchar delivered a letter Wednesday to the country’s top antitrust officials – Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim and Federal Trade Commission Chairman Joseph Simons – urging scrutiny of Uber’s potential acquisition of Grubhub. 

Uber, which has a market capitalization of $59 billion, has made an offer to buy food delivery company Grubhub,  which has a market capitalization of $5.3 billion, CNBC has reported. It is unclear whether the two will come to an agreement on price.

U.S. state attorneys general likely to bring antitrust lawsuits against Google: source

(Reuters) – A group of state attorneys general led by Texas are likely to -file an antitrust lawsuit against Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) Google and are working on potential litigation for later this year, a person familiar with the situation said on Friday.

The Justice Department is also moving toward bringing a case as soon as this summer, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Shares of Alphabet fell about 1.5% in after-hours trading.
