Specialist insurer Beazley has launched a suite of contingency policies to provide media producers and production companies coverage against a range of risks that can cause productions to be delayed or called off.

Beazley’s film production offering can cover various content and channels, including feature films, television, animation, photographic shoots and commercials. It provides coverage for:

    • If production is prevented or interrupted due to injury, sickness, death, bereavement or kidnapping
  • Media
    • Faulty media, cameras, recording equipment, developing, editing or processing

MetLife appoints global head of insurance strategy in Hong Kong


Insurance giant MetLife has announced the appointment of a key executive to “enhance” its global insurance asset management capabilities and expand its institutional client group presence in Asia.

Jingsu Pu has re-joined MetLife Investment Management (MIM), the institutional asset management business of MetLife, in Hong Kong as global head of insurance strategy and solutions and head of institutional client group (ICG), Asia, excluding Japan.

girocard hits new highs in Germany as population moves to contactless payments


Germany’s girocard remains on the road to success in a year defined by the COVID-19 pandemic, with almost 5.5 billion transactions in 2020, it reached a new high at the checkout.

Compared to the previous year, girocard was used around 1 billion times more often than in 2020 (2019: 4.5 billion), corresponding to a growth rate of 21.7{3c4481f38fc19dde56b7b1f4329b509c88239ba5565146922180ec5012de023f}.

As the current statistics of the Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft (DK) further show, the turnover was €236 billion an increase of 12.0{3c4481f38fc19dde56b7b1f4329b509c88239ba5565146922180ec5012de023f} (2019: €211 billion). MAPFRE reveals 2020 earnings results


Global insurer MAPFRE posted an operating result of €658 million (about SG$1.1 billion) in 2020. The company said it was “highly affected” by the COVID-19 pandemic in the first six months of the year, but produced a solid result in the second half, when it generated €388 million.

At year-end, the company decided to strengthen its balance sheet by assigning €132 million to the entire goodwill impairment of its operations in Italy, Turkey, and Indonesia, with the intent to adapt to new market circumstances and lay the foundation for continued profitable growth.
