Charles Taylor launches work injury claims system in Singapore

Charles Taylor Claims Services has launched a bespoke workers’ compensation claims solution, which comes ahead of Singapore’s revised Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA) coming into effect on January 01, 2021.

Once the new WICA comes into effect, work injury claims processing will be solely the responsibility of insurers – whereas, currently, claims processing is being carried out by both insurers and the Ministry of Manpower. The change, Charles Taylor said, will help avoid duplication of work and ensure that paperwork is processed efficiently through one party.

Jane Hegeler, business development director of Charles Taylor, will head the new claims service.

“As law and regulations change, the process tends to become more onerous, and we understand that it is more challenging for insurers and brokers to manage their claims in-house,” she said. “However, this change is in line with Singapore’s wider goal to become a global leader in workplace safety, and we are fully supportive of it.

Incorporating specialist claims handling, validation, and proactive medical case management for specialized workers’ compensation claims, the specialised team will be tasked with handling claims based on MOM’s requirements. According to Charles Taylor, this will shorten the process from 21 days down to two days.

“Our service provides a specialist claims handling solution to relieve internal pressure, allowing companies to focus on their core business of underwriting and client delivery. This support enables our handlers to effectively review, manage and process claims in a timely manner,” Hegeler said.
