Gerrard plots Liverpool raid
Steven Gerrard is plotting a huge transfer raid on his former side Liverpool.
The Reds icon’s Villa side have claimed just three points from their last five games and suffered a thumping 4-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The club’s downturn in form has led to Gerrard turning his attention to the summer transfer market, when he plans to make big changes to his playing squad.
One of the players Gerrard is keen to sign is Liverpool defender Joe Gomez – and the Villa manager is set to get the financial backing he wants to help reshape his squad from the club’s billionaire owners.
Reds’ ‘major problem’ in title run-in
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has pointed out the “major problem” the Reds could have as they aim to overturn Manchester City’s slender lead in the Premier League title run-in.
City currently sit top of the Premier League table and have a one-point advantage over the Reds following their clash at the Etihad on Sunday. And Redknapp thinks that Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur “will be significant” and “poses them a major problem”.
But Redknapp still thinks the title race is still “impossible to call”.
Klopp’s Man City half-time message
Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared what Jurgen Klopp told his players at half-time against Manchester City on Sunday.
Liverpool pulled a goal back in the second half as they drew 2-2 with title rivals Manchester City. Kevin De Bruyne fired the champions into a fifth-minute lead at the Etihad Stadium but Diogo Jota levelled eight minutes later for the second-placed Reds.
Gabriel Jesus restored City’s advantage before the break before Sadio Mane grabbed a second equaliser for Jurgen Klopp’s men just seconds into the second half. And Alexander-Arnold has said that manager Klopp inspired his players to grab the equaliser by telling them to “play our football”.
