Skate 4 will be free-to-play and already has a definitive title2 min read
No more talking about Skate 4, the game is now called skate, a solution that has been popular in the video game industry for quite some time. Abandoning the number means that it is a reboot, something fresh, although within a consolidated saga. The announcement was made during The Board Roam, a streaming broadcast in which those responsible for the project reflected on its creation. As important as the title is its business model: it will be free-to-play.
The game will be coming to PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles, although it is unknown if that includes the previous generation platforms (Xbox One and PS4) or just the new generation ones (PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S). In any case, it’s not exactly built as a sequel to the previous three, but rather as a platform.
Free-to-play, how will these microtransactions work?
Despite its free-to-play status, the Full Circle studio has stressed that there will be neither loot boxes nor abusive microtransactions. In the case of the latter, the idea is that the content sold will be mostly cosmetic, so there will be no elements of a pay-to-win nature or places on the map closed to those who do not pay for the DLC in question.
As for the location, the game will take place in a new (fictional) city known as San Vansterdam, which is located within the same universe as San Vanelona.
Selected players have had the opportunity to participate in the preliminary tests, although they have been forced to sign a confidentiality agreement that prevents them from sharing videos, images and other information. However, one of the builds is already available online and EA has been clear about this:
“We’re aware of an earlier version of the game that has been distributed without our authorization. This build is from September 2021 and was never intended for external use”.
